The Music Library houses library collections supporting the coursework of AU academic programs in music and the performing arts. Established in 1966, the Music Library moved to the Katzen Arts Center upon its opening in 2005. The collection represents a broad spectrum of subjects, periods, and styles, including classical music, musical theatre, jazz, blues, world music, and popular music. The Music Library is open to the AU community and the general public for academic research in music. The collection includes:

  • Over 12,000 scores, including historical sheet music
  • Over 10,000 compact discs
  • Rare musical theatre recordings on vinyl
  • Selected reference works, including collected works by major composers
  • Audio streaming databases with access to classical, jazz, musical theatre, and world music albums
  • Classical music, opera, world music, and musical-theatre DVDs and streaming video
  • Reserves for Department of Performing Arts courses

Collection Highlights

featuring more than two hundred digitized items from our historical sheet music collection, listings for our complete collection - over 2,500 items, as well as the Paula Diehl collection.

New to AU! This comprehensive collection of world music includes Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, considered to be an encyclopedia of the world's musical and aural traditions. (Available on campus or off campus with AU login).

Time for a movie night? The Music Library has many great film musicals on DVD. Browse our collection online and then stop in to borrow a film!
